Too Good To Go and Whole Foods Market expanded their partnership nationwide, bringing seven categories of discounted surprise bags to every store in the U.S. The program, designed to reduce food waste, offers bags of unsold produce, meats, seafood, pantry staples, frozen and refrigerated items, and even flowers—each priced between $7 and $10 and typically valued at up to $30. After successful pilots in select cities, the rollout now covers more than 530 stores, giving shoppers across the country a new way to save while keeping perfectly good food out of landfills.
Shoppers can reserve a Surprise Bag through the Too Good To Go app, selecting their local Whole Foods Market and choosing a pickup window, usually later in the day when stores set aside unsold items. Bag categories include prepared foods, bakery, dry grocery, frozen grocery, refrigerated grocery, meat or seafood, produce, and floral. Each bag’s contents vary daily and remain a surprise until pickup—part of the appeal for regular users.
The nationwide expansion reflects growing consumer interest in affordability and sustainability. Since the partnership’s initial pilot in 2023, Too Good To Go and Whole Foods Market have already prevented more than 1.6 million meals from going to waste. With more than 17 million U.S. users on the app, demand for these bags is high, and many locations see them sell out shortly after they become available.
For Whole Foods Market, the program offers a practical way to limit waste while bringing in value-focused customers. For shoppers, it’s a chance to score high-quality groceries at a steep discount. And for the environment, it’s another step toward reducing the impact of food waste—one mystery bag at a time.
