Whole Foods Market Store Opens in Our Nation’s Capital
Whole Foods Market opened a new store in the nation’s capital. The 47,000 square-foot location opened on Wednesday, June 28th. Located at 7150 12th Street NW, Washington, D.C. in a recently developed, mixed-use site, this store’s design complements the architecture of the historic Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The new location features more than 800 local item from across the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area, a variety of certified organic, conventional and Sourced for Good produce, plus offerings from local farms, a specialty department dedicated to celebrating cheesemakers and artisan producers, full-service meat and seafood counters, a curated grocery section with exclusive brand favorites, a selection of more than 250 craft beers, prepared foods section offering sushi, pizza, and hot and salad bars, a bakery department with made-in-house bread, plus a Whole Body section including a variety of local products.
In an effort to give back to the community, the Austin, Texas-based grocer donated to D/C/ Food Project, which provides food during the school day, weekends and holiday breaks for families in need, Real Food for Kids, which works to increase access to healthy foods in the D.C. school system and to Food Rescue D.C., an organization that recovers food from grocery stores and restaurants and distributes to social service partners.
Owned by Amazon, Whole Foods Market has more than 500 stores in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom and serves as the first certified organic natural grocer.
