Market Basket New Store in Shrewsbury Experiences Setbacks

Shoppers won’t be able to put all the eggs in their basket just yet. Tewksbury, Massachusetts-based supermarket chain, Market Basket, is opening a new store in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. The store’s grand opening is delayed due to supply chain issues affecting availability of some critical building components. Although the opening date is still “to be announced”, the retailer is actively hiring for the new location. Located in the Edgemere Crossing at Flint Pond, the Market Basket store will anchor for the new development, which will also include 250 units of housing, a Starbucks, and a bank. The development is located at 200 Hartford Turnpike. The grocery store will occupy about 80,000 square feet of the 68-acre site that is the former location of the Edgemere Drive-In. With roots dating back as far as 1917, Market Basket was recently named one of the top grocery stores in the Greater Boston area, according to a new ranking from Consumers’ Checkbook, by continuing to hold true to its “More For Your Dollar” phrase as not only a standard and motto but a tradition that has become part of the grocers culture.
