H-E-B Donates $10 Million Toward New Elementary School in Uvalde

In the wake of a brutal school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, H-E-B and the Butt family have donated $10 million to help build a new high-tech elementary campus in Uvalde. The senseless act of violence took 21 innocent lives at Robb Elementary School in May, including 19 children and 2 teachers, making it one of the deadliest classroom shootings in U.S. history. Robb Elementary has since closed and plans are in place for the school to be demolished. In addition to the $10 million to rebuild the elementary, H-E-B donated $500,000 to victims and families and the H-E-B Tournament of Champions Charitable Trust raised an additional $500,000 for nonprofits supporting victims of Uvalde. H-E-B has made a legacy of going beyond selling groceries to give back to the communities it serves. “Our first store in Uvalde opened in 1959, and Uvalde people are our people,” said Charles Butt, H-E-B’s Chairman. “As we continue to mourn tremendous loss, I join with my family and H-E-B in working to ensure the Uvalde community can move forward from this tragic event. Our children are this country’s future, and our schools should be a safe place where children can thrive and envision new possibilities.”

The new school will improve educational offerings and employ high-tech safety and security measures. A location for the new campus and the build date have not been determined. For those who would like to join the effort, contributions to support this project can be made by donating to the Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization established to help raise funds for the new elementary campus as well as serve the immediate and ongoing financial needs of Uvalde CISD.
