H-E-B Introduces Digital Tap-To-Pay At All Locations

Last month, H-E-B completed the gradual rollout of digital tap-to-pay services at all its flagship stores. Earlier in the summer, the retailer had introduced tap-to-pay at its Central Market and Joe V’s Smart Shop locations across Texas.

The new service allowed customers to make purchases using digital wallets like Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay. The rollout was done regionally, with new stores gaining access each day throughout October. It started in the San Antonio area, where H-E-B had the service available at all locations within a week, followed by stores across Texas and Mi Tienda stores in Houston.

Customers were able to use tap-to-pay with physical cards or digital wallets at registers, self-checkouts, H-E-B-branded restaurants, and pharmacy locations. Although the service was not initially available at fuel pumps, it was accepted at the payment windows of H-E-B fuel stations.

“At H-E-B, we’re always exploring new technologies to improve the shopping experience,” said Ashwin Nathan, H-E-B’s group VP of Marketing and Payments. “This has been one of the most requested services from our customers and partners, and we’re excited to bring it to all of our stores.”
