Rainbow Acres was founded in 1981 as a vision to bring healthy and organic food, produce, supplements, and body care to its community in Mar Vista.
The original founder and owner, Howard Pollack passed away suddenly on October 21st, 2022, due to pneumonia from complications with COVID-19, at the age of 82.
Howard was a very active member of his community, a member of the local rotary club for over 30 years, supporter of Boys and Girls club, LAX chamber of Commerce, supported local LAFD stations to name a few. He had the nickname “Mr. Generosity” due to his kind and thoughtful manner and passion for all good things and health. Howard never rode a bike and quit school at the age of 15.
According to the Rainbow Acres website “Howard was born an entrepreneur; he started a 5-cent profit candy business at the age of eight. By 1967, he started a natural food business out of the kitchen in his own home, his “Chunks o’ Health” grew into what became Nature’s Best distribution company. He has owned and operated Rainbow Acres for the last 40 years which was the largest independently owned health food store in the Los Angeles area.
Howard will be greatly missed by family, friends, and industry partners. His smile and easy-going nature were noted by all that met and knew him.
The store will continue to operate as a family-owned business in his loving memory.
